The tradition of the arts in Spoleto
From June 26th to July 12th, 2026, the city of Spoleto renews its historic cultural vocation with the 69th edition of the Festival dei Due Mondi. Under the artistic direction of Daniele Cipriani, the event explores the central theme of Roots, understood as a deep bond with the artistic and historical heritage that defines the identity of the Umbrian festival.
The city, famous for its perfectly preserved medieval layout and the grandeur of the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta, transforms into a widespread stage. Urban spaces become a natural theater for a program that intertwines opera, symphonic music, contemporary dance, and prose, confirming the international prestige of the Umbrian kermesse.
A program of international significance
The inauguration is entrusted to the opera Vanessa by Samuel Barber, a choice that opens the festival with formal rigor and narrative intensity. Classical music finds its highest expression with the participation of the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin, featuring soloist pianist Yuja Wang. The musical journey concludes with the final concert under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda, leading the Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino.
Alongside the musical program, the festival dedicates ample space to the visual arts. Palazzo Collicola, home to the Gallery of Modern Art, hosts an exhibition dedicated to the sculptures of Giuseppe Penone. The dialogue between the spaces of the noble palace and the artist's works offers a tangible reflection on matter and memory, the cornerstones of this year's theme.
