Piedmont is a region in northwestern Italy that stretches from the Alps to the hills of Monferrato and Roero, with Turin as its capital. Nature and Environment

Piedmont offers an extraordinary variety of natural landscapes. The Piedmontese Alps, with their imposing peaks such as Monte Rosa (4,634 meters), Gran Paradiso (4,061 meters), and the Matterhorn (4,478 meters), represent a paradise for trekking, mountaineering, and winter sports enthusiasts. Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy's oldest national park, protects unspoiled nature, with hiking trails, alpine lakes, and rich biodiversity including rare species such as ibex, chamois, and golden eagle.

Pre-Alpine lakes, such as Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, represent another of the region's main tourist attractions, with their crystal-clear waters, rugged coasts, and picturesque villages. The Langhe and Monferrato, with their vineyards and hilly landscapes, represent a stunning rural landscape, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Maritime Alps Nature Park protects one of Italy's last unspoiled alpine areas, with rich biodiversity and hiking trails crossing forests, meadows, and rocky areas.

Food and Wine

Piedmontese cuisine is one of the most famous and appreciated in Italy, with dishes reflecting the region's richness and variety. Among the most famous dishes are "agnolotti al plin" (stuffed pasta with meat and vegetables), "tajarin" (fresh pasta made with flour and eggs, served with meat sauce or truffle), and "risotto alla piemontese" (a first course of rice, cheese, and truffle). Second courses include "brasato al Barolo" (beef cooked slowly with Barolo wine), "vitello tonnato" (veal served with tuna sauce), and "bollito misto" (mixed boiled meats served with sauces and side dishes).

Piedmontese cheeses are world-renowned: among these are Castelmagno (a hard cheese made with cow's milk), Bra (a semi-cooked cheese), and Gorgonzola (a blue-veined cheese). Cured meats include Varzi salami, cooked salami, and Bologna mortadella. Piedmontese traditional desserts are equally delicious: among these are "gianduiotti" (chocolates made with chocolate, hazelnuts, and sugar), "baci di dama" (sweets made with two shortcrust biscuits joined by chocolate cream), and "torrone" (a sweet made with honey, almonds, and eggs).

Piedmont's wines are among the most prestigious in Italy: among these are Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, Barbera d'Asti DOCG, and Moscato d'Asti DOCG. Piedmont is also famous for its truffles, particularly the white truffle of Alba (one of the world's most prestigious and expensive truffles). The Langhe extra virgin olive oil, produced with the Taggiasca cultivar, is one of the most prestigious in Italy and represents another strength of the region.
